How canTalk..Don't Walk help me?

We have had asked a number of parents who have accessed the service what questions they wanted answering and we have shared the most frequently asked questions below.

  1. Is it a confidential service?

    Yes, Within the normal limits i.e. a breach would be made in regards to the safety of children and/or cause for concern of harm to the client or others.

  2. How will Talk..Don't Walk help me and my child?

    Practical and emotional support; counselling, mediation, conflict resolution. We can also act as an advocate with other professionals.

  3. Can I still get help from you, even if my child doesn't?

    Yes, depending upon the circumstances i.e. if there is a danger your child may run or be involved in risk taking behaviour it may be necessary for you to engage before we can speak to your child and encourage them to attend.

  4. Do I have to pay?

    If you are based in the Warrington area, this service is free of charge. However, if you are outside the area, you can call our helpline on 0800 085 2136 or Contact Us and we will signpost you to a service within your locality.

  5. Does my child have to have run away for me to get help?

    No, if there is a danger your child may run or be involved in risk taking behaviour and you are based within the Warrington area, you qualify to access support in our centre but if you are outside the area, you can still call our helpline on 0800 085 2136.

  6. Could I speak to other people with the same problems as me?

    If they consented or were part of a focus group yes.

  7. Am I the only parent with these problems, what did I do wrong?

    You are not the only parent with these issues; we can suggest positive changes that might help but you are not a bad parent.

  8. Who can I speak to when I can't cope?

    We operate an out of hours helpline service to clients who are accessing Talk..Don't Walk. (0800 085 2136)

  9. What can I do to help myself and my family?

    Listen to your worker; be open and honest; communicate with your family and listen to them without judging.

  10. How do I access your service?

    You can contact us directly or you may be referred to us by another agency such as Connexions, the Police or Social Services.

  11. Are other authorities informed, if I do get help?

    If you consent to information sharing other agencies/ authorities may be informed of your involvement with TDW; also refer to answer 1.

  12. What happens if I am not in the Cheshire Area?

    You can still call our helpline and we can give you some initial information and guidance regarding your child and we will be able to signpost you to other services that can be of assistance to you within your locality. Alternatively, you can visit our Contact Us page and select the area in which you live to see if there are other organisations that are able to provide support.
