Izzie is a 14 year old girl wanting to do normal teenage things, she loves her mobile phone, clothes, music and meeting up with her friends.
Her family is mixed-race and she is the eldest and only daughter, with two younger brothers.
Izzie had started going out with a boy of similar age who was known as a repeat runaway. As the relationship developed, Izzie started to stay out overnight without permission.
Tensions started to increase between Izzie and her parents and Izzie began to stay out for longer periods of time. Even though her parents knew where she was, they couldn’t get her to come home and they were concerned that she was drinking as well as having under-age sex.
Izzie and her parents attended sessions with Talk... Don’t Walk and communications began to improve. Izzie was still with her boyfriend, however, she started to respect their boundaries and understand why her parents were setting them.
Her parents understood the need for Izzie to become more independent and together they agreed ground rules.
Izzie was referred to PHAZE and the Youth Advice Shop to look at her risk-taking behaviour. She stopped running away from home and subsequently her boyfriend started to access Talk... Don’t Walk services.
£10 a month can make a real difference
It could pay for a young run away to receive a session from a qualified counsellor or could allow us to answer a call from a distressed parent and give them vital help and support to ensure that their child stays safe.
Talk..Don't Walk is a service provided by The Relationships Centre. A registered charity in England and Wales. Registered Charity No. 1078372.
