Talk Don't Walk

Information for Schools

Talk … Don’t Walk teaching resource has been developed with practising teachers to provide a comprehensive set of tools to deliver four stimulating lessons.

The resource helps to deliver the knowledge, skills and understanding for PSHE and Citizenship with much of the pack also linking to key strands of the DCSF Schemes of Work.

Nuno Valente on training pitch with school boy

"We need to educate children and young people, so that they understand the dangers of running away and are aware that running away is not always the safest way out."

"Children can often find it difficult to talk about their problems, but hopefully this pack will help them out."

Nuno Valente
Everton FC & Portugal Squad Member

The teaching resource packs are split for Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 and has been designed to be flexible, incorporating a wide range of teaching styles and addressing varying student needs. A suite of suggested activities are supplied, with opportunities for individual, paired and group work.

It is estimated that 100,000 young people run away from home or care every year. Many young people run away due to serious and often long-standing problems within the family or a number of problems that they may be experiencing at school and in their personal life.

Through the Talk…Don’t Walk teaching resources, we hope to furnish children and young people with skills that will help them in the real world as well as supporting their curriculum-based learning. Our aim is to:

  • raise awareness amongst young people of the support networks available to them
  • help children and young people manage their relationships better
  • facilitate their ability to communicate
  • prepare them for change
  • enhance their understanding of choices and the consequences of those choices

By giving young people the tools they need to cope with a variety of challenging situations, we hope to significantly reduce the numbers of young people running away from home every year.

If you have found these materials useful, perhaps you would consider making a one-off donation to enable us to continue developing out TDW into school packs

Donations Help make a difference

£10 a month can make a real difference
It could pay for a young run away to receive a session from a qualified counsellor or could allow us to answer a call from a distressed parent and give them vital help and support to ensure that their child stays safe.
